APAC Labs' research is featured in the Bulletin de la Société Archéologique d’Alexandrie.
APAC Lab researchers Athanasios Koutoupas, Rahaf Orabi, Nikolas Bakirtzis, Sorin Hermon and VeLab researcher Nicolas Loucas have recently presented their work on the 3D documentation of the Shatby Necropolis in Alexandria in their latest paper, “Digital Documentation and Visualization of the Shatby Necropolis in Alexandria,” published in the Bulletin de la Société Archéologique d’Alexandrie.
The paper focuses on the earliest surviving necropolis in Alexandria, documented using Terrestrial Laser Scanning and Photogrammetry. This data was then processed into a virtual visualization platform, providing a comprehensive representation of the site's current state of conservation. The platform also serves as a digital monitoring environment, supporting ongoing preservation efforts and facilitating future restoration initiatives.
This work aligns with recent advancements in the application of cutting-edge digital technologies for the documentation, preservation, protection, and valorization of cultural heritage.
