Athanasios joined the Cyprus Institute in May 2017 and currently serves as Senior Research Coordination Officer for Cultural Heritage and Innovation at STARC / APAC Labs. He holds a PhD in Science and Technology in Cultural Heritage (2026) from the Cyprus Institute, as well as Master’s Degrees in History (2015) from the Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Religious Studies (2012) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology (2006) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

His research focuses on the religion, history, and archaeology of Late Antiquity in the Eastern Mediterranean, with particular emphasis on the transformation of Alexandria from paganism to Christianity. Alongside his academic work, he plays an active role in coordinating large-scale European research infrastructure projects and developing innovation-driven heritage services. His work bridges heritage science, advanced analytical and digital documentation technologies, and industry collaboration, supporting the translation of research outcomes into sustainable cultural heritage applications and cross-sector partnerships.
