Dendrochronological study and analysis of Virgin Mary icon, Monastery of Agia Napa

In the first two weeks of June, the Dendrochronology Lab of The Cyprus Institute had the opportunity to study the historic icon of the Virgin Mary from the Monastery of Agia Napa. The icon came to the Lab from the Diocese οf Constantia - Ammochostos as part of cooperation on studying various icons from the Monastery of Agia Napa. Imaging methods and scanning applications for the non-invasive dendrochronological study were applied for dating the icon. The results of the study will offer a dating ‘terminus post quem’ which should not differ from the time of making the object by more than a few, maximally several years.
