TREE site visit at Panagia of Asinou
In the framework of the "Tracing History and Environment with Tree Rings in Cyprus" (TREE) Project, the Cyprus Dendrochronology Laboratory (CDL) of APAC Labs and the Cyprus Department of Forests has visited the Church of Panagia (Our Lady) tis Asinou.
Panagia of Asinou is one of the UNESCO World Heritage monuments of Mount Troodos that has been studied under the scope of the TREE Project. During the site visit, Byzantine and Medieval heritage in Cyprus, project activities, application of dendrochronology in cultural heritage, and paleoenvironmental studies were reviewed through the on-site examples.
Overall, CDL and Cyprus Department of Forests members recognize the significance of studying wooden cultural heritage for historical and environmental research while discussing possible future collaborations.
