TREE workshop with the Department of Forests and Antiquities

In the last two weeks, the Cyprus Dendrochronology Lab (CDL) at the Cyprus Institute co-organized two workshops with the Cyprus Department of Forests and the Cyprus Department of Antiquities under the scope of the TREE project.

During the workshops, TREE members Nikolas Bakirtzis and Mehmetcan Soyluoglu talked about the project and dendrochronology as a key research method in studying Cyprus's Byzantine and Medieval heritage.

The workshop with the Department of Forests (DoF) took place at the Forestry College at Prodromos. After TREE's presentation, also  DoF shared their studies on monumental trees in Cyprus; the workshops followed up with site visits to the monumental trees and  UNESCO World Heritage listed Troodos churches. The second workshop took place at the premises of the Department of Antiquities (DoA) in Nicosia. During the workshop, a dendrochronological method demonstration and an exhibition on the TREE activities were presented to the DoA members at the Cyprus Museum garden. Overall, as two of the consortium partners of the TREE project, the organised workshops have created opportunities in exchanging knowledge and looking for new opportunities for future collaborations with all TREE partners.
