APAC in the ‘Journal of Computing and Cultural Heritage.’

APAC Labs researchers Rahaf Orabi, Nikolas Bakirtzis, and Georgios Artopoulos recently published the article “A Digital Approach to Revisiting the Byzantine Past of Al-Madrassa Al-Halawiyya in Aleppo” in the ‘Journal of Computing and Cultural Heritage.’

The article demonstrates the use of a hybrid methodology in establishing building phases, using the architectural complex of the al-Madrasa al-Halawiyya in Aleppo, Syria as a case study.

Using a 3D point cloud generated from a field survey of the building, researchers were able to virtually reconstruct several building phases, including a 6th-century Byzantine church.

This innovative research reveals new knowledge about the many phases of this site as well as historical building techniques and processes.
