Advancing Digital Cultural Heritage with the Collaboration of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign

Over the past years, the collaboration between NCSA / UIUC and APAC Labs / STARC / The Cyprus Institute has grown stronger pursuing new synergies and research possibilities. More recently, postdoctoral opportunities and groundbreaking research initiatives, such as using the Clowder Framework developed by NCSA in the cultural heritage domain and extending the CyprusArk Content Management System: Dedicated to Museums, Collections, and Memory Institutions developed by APAC Labs have advanced our understanding and technological capabilities in Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage and built professional and personal relationships between the two teams. STARC’s Dr. Avgoustinos Avgousti has been pursuing postdoctoral work in the framework of the collaboration between NCSA / UIUC and the Cyprus Institute pursuing research engaging APAC Labs / STARC projects and initiatives in the broader field of Digital Cultural Heritage. 

Next steps involve the development of innovative research software / engineering solutions tailored specifically for the Cultural Heritage and Digital Humanities domains. By leveraging NCSA's cutting-edge expertise in software research engineering and APAC Labs / STARC’s expertise in Digital Cultural Heritage, research will aim in the creation of tools to revolutionize how cultural data is digitized, analyzed, and preserved for future generations. These technological advancements will help to set new standards for research and technology connecting the Humanities and Cultural Heritage to advanced Digital Technologies thus bridging the gap between tradition, heritage, and technology.
