APAC Labs researchers at the “Byzantine Forests” workshop hosted by the Cornell Tree-ring Laboratory
APAC Labs researchers recently participated in the workshop “Byzantine Forest,” hosted by the Cornell Tree-ring Laboratory, which focused on the woodland ecosystem of the Eastern Mediterranean between 500-1500 AD.
Contributions from APAC Labs Director Nikolas Bakirtzis and PhD candidate Mehmetcan Soyluoglu showed the ongoing efforts to build a comprehensive Byzantine tree-ring chronology in Cyprus, and discussed Byzantine views of forests and trees through examples of APAC Labs studies at the UNESCO-listed Painted Churches of the Troodos.
The Cornell Tree-ring Laboratory is one of the key partners of the Cyprus Dendrochronology Laboratory at APAC Labs. Researchers Sturt Manning (Cornell) and Brita Lorentzen (UGA) were also on hand to present their ongoing collaborative work in Cyprus.
