APAC Labs collaborates with Pancyprian Gymnasium on its historic collections

A close partnership between the Cyprus Institute (CyI) and the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia continues to develop with the Andreas Pittas Art Characterization (APAC) Laboratories spearheading the collaborative efforts on behalf of the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Research Center (STARC) at CyI. The partnership has been formalized through a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which provides the necessary context for various synergies and activities focused around the digital documentation, study and visualization of the wealth of collections belonging to the Pancyprian Gymnasium. These collections include a broad range of materials, among them codices, archives, photographs, paintings, coins, artworks, and archaeological artifacts.

APAC Labs brings interdisciplinary technical expertise and advanced digital infrastructure support for the ongoing digitization efforts of the Pancyprian Gymnasium. Moreover, the digital platform of  The Edmée Leventis Digital Library for Cypriot Culture (DIOPTRA) offers a high-end platform for data management for newly created digital collections. The DIOPTRA platform will help to showcase, disseminate and distribute the outcomes of this collaborative initiative. At the Pancyprian Gymnasium, digital documentation work is led by educators and photography specialists. The APAC Labs team along with the Pancyprian photography experts have developed an advanced digital library tailored to the school's specific requirements.

This initiative exemplifies the commitment of APAC Labs to the preservation and valorization of Cypriot cultural heritage via innovative technologies. Harnessing scientific and technological advancements for archaeological and cultural heritage research across Cyprus and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region opens up significant opportunities for documenting, disseminating, studying, and safeguarding our rich cultural heritage for future generations.
