APAC Labs researchers Sorin Hermon, Marina Faka, Svetlana Gasanova, Martina Polig, and Valentina Vassallo contributed to the recently published volume: ‘The Decline of Bronze Age Civilisations in the Mediterranean: Cyprus and Beyond.’
The book chapter, “Work in progress: the contribution of science and technology in the investigations at Pyla Kokkinokremos,” discusses the contribution of scientific approaches to the the study of the declining Bronze Age societies in the Eastern Mediterranean, and how digital analyses and non-invasive material investigations can contribute to the interpretation of the phenomenon.
In particular, the chapter explores the Late Bronze Age site of Pyla Kokkinokremos, digitally reconstructing the social, cultural and economic dynamics of its inhabitants. This study has ramifications much beyond the confines of the island, being strongly related to major changes occurring throughout the Mediterranean basin during this period.
Consequently, the new excavations at the site are implementing comprehensive and extensive archaeological research supported by sciences and technologies. In this chapter, Hermon et al. detail the contribution of digital and analytical investigations for supporting the archaeological fieldwork and analysis of selected artefacts from this important site.
