Rahaf joined The Cyprus Institute in 2022. She obtained her degree in Architecture from Damascus University in (2012), then immediately started working in the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums (DGAM), Syria, where she specialized in the 3D documentation of endangered archaeological sites, historical urban centers, and artefacts. She holds a master’s degree in Architectural Design/Digital Architecture from Damascus University (2016) and a master’s degree in Digital Cultural Heritage from the Cyprus Institute (2021).
She was a member of “Project Anqa”, a joint initiative of ICOMOS, CyArk, and (Carleton Immersive Media Studio) CIMS, for the digital documentation of monuments in Damascus. She participated in the documentation of Palmyra after its liberation from ISIS and initiated an urban-scale laser scanning project the in the Old City of Aleppo. The project is focused on the digital reconstruction of the historic urban fabric of the old city, which is also the topic of her Ph.D. dissertation in History and Archaeology at Pázmány Peter Catholic University, Budapest, Hungary.
Research interests: Digital Heritage, Laser Scanning, Photogrammetry, Point Cloud Analysis, Urban Heritage.
